Marketing FREAKOUT!!!
Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 12:51AM
Looking to capitalize on others' success to drive awareness for your organization?
Look no further than the Whopper "Freakout" Campaign. Most organizations could stage a similar campaign outside their ticket offices where they tell consumers that their Will Call tickets (or season tickets) are not available for the biggest game of the year... The reactions would be outrageous and would make for a great viral campaign!

There's actually a minor league baseball team that locked fans out a few years ago. It was basically a big PR stunt to try to set the world record for lowest attendance at a game. I think it worked out pretty well in terms of generating buzz/interest for the team. It's kind of dumb though (in my humble opinion) because you're pissing off fans--everything a team does should be for the fans. But I guess a weird PR stunt once in a blue moon doesn't hurt too much.
