    Strikeouts = Free Pizza?

    pizza%20pizza.jpgDarryl Dionne of the Professional Hockey Players Association (PHPA) recently informed me of a creative incentive-driving promotion north of the border. Pizza Pizza, a Canadian QSR chain, offered Blue Jays fans the opportunity to redeem their ticket stubs within 24 hours for a free slice of pizza anytime the team struck out seven (7) or more batters. Pizza Pizza featured a banner in the outfield with the chain's phone number and put a "K" over a number every time the Blue Jays recorded a strikeout (providing a clear visual for fans to understand the promotion).

    Pizza Pizza also ran a similar promotion at Toronto Raptors home contests. If the Raptors scored more points than a pre-determined number (announced over the PA at the beginning of the game), all fans attending the game could redeem their ticket stub for a free slice of pizza at any Pizza Pizza location within 24 hours of the game.
